The "Eisai-Shinshi," one of the representative magazines for younger contributors in the first half of the Meiji era, made its first appearance in the 10th of Meiji (1877). It was the 16th of Meiji (1883) when the new-fashioned poems began to appear among the contributed works in the magazine. In this paper we intended to study these new-fashioned poems and to make clear how the younger contributors in those days searched for the poems new-fashioned in styles as well as in contents, and in what ways the literary and social situations in those days were reflected in these works.
